Enjoy the Taste of Kerala
Kerala Cuisine and it’s unique taste
Prepare to be enchanted by the culinary magic of Kerala, where flavours and traditions intertwine like an ancient tapestry. This distinctive cuisine, with its roots deep in the heart of the state, is a tantalising dance of local ingredients and culture.
In Kerala’s kitchen, coconut reigns supreme, a gift of the abundant coastal lands. Coconut milk weaves its sweet enchantment into gravies, while the very essence of the cuisine is embraced by the heavenly coconut oil. The symphony of spices, a hallmark of Keralite dishes, includes green chilies, cumin, coriander, clove, cinnamon, cardamom, and fiery dried red chilies. Freshly plucked curry and coriander leaves infuse dishes with a subtle, irresistible allure. The art of steam cooking, a cherished tradition, underscores a commitment to healthful gastronomy.
Vegetarian fare in Kerala is a gentle symphony of mild flavours, delicately prepared, and easy on the palate. In contrast, the non-vegetarian offerings from Malayalee kitchens are a fiery and sumptuous feast, a sensory journey through a world of spices and richness. Prepare to embark on a culinary voyage that marries the bounty of nature with a passion for flavour, all in the picturesque backdrop of Kerala’s cultural tapestry.

Best Indian food I’ve tasted in a while. Service was fantastic - the guy who served us, advised us on what to have and was so helpful and friendly. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be going back.Tijo AbrahamApril 25, 2024The food here is absolutely delicious! Highly recommend the prawns chilli as starter, accompanied by mains masala dosa, ghee roast and lamb biriyani. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and tasted top-notch.Stanley VargheseApril 14, 2024Visited after looking for a nearby south indian restaurant and I must say we thoroughly enjoyed it. We tried 6 to 7 dishes and can't fault even one. Each dish tasted exceptionally good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to have an authentic taste of kerala food away from home. Please be aware that reservation is necessary as the place is packed. Although we couldn't manage to dine in due to non reservation, the staff was excellent in accommodating our order for collection. A kerala style restaurant within an English pub. Haven't come across something like this anytime recently but seems this would be one of my go to choice for a kerala restaurant until something can beat its taste.
ExcellentBased on 26 reviewsVerifiedJRockMay 4, 2024Delicious food. Fabulous food from the guys at Alleppey Kitchen. Fresh, vibrant Keralan flavours (they even bring samples of the sauce for you to sample so you get the perfect spice level). The staff are friendly and knowledgeable helping with menu choices. First class all round.VerifiedDebbie RMay 3, 2024Spur of the minute - excellent decision!! Having seen Facebook pictures and reviews we decided to call down last night to try this South Indian restaurant. We were greeted by amazing smells wafting from a couple of our friends eating outside in the evening sun. Inside the pub, where you can get a range of handpulls not usually available at Indian restaurants made my husbands day! The menu which was explained by the waiter as being first time diners here was very different and his advice was taken on which delicious dishes to try. We shared the chilli chicken for starter and we had malabar lamb curry and a fish moilee with ghee rice and chapatti and appam bread. Absolutely delicious, clean plates all round. Will definitely be back soon. Thank youVerifiedVictoria SApril 28, 2024Delicious flavours We ordered chicken masala dosas, Kerala lamb stew, duck mappas curry and chicken kurma curries (kids loved those) with various rice dishes & masala chips. All of it was absolutely delicious. We were even brought samples of the curry sauces to check we were happy with the heat level.VerifiedJane MApril 26, 2024Fab food Fabulous food as usual Different from your usual Indian food. Try it. You won’t be disappointed Staff very friendly Toilets clean Great atmosphere Wonderful musicVerifiedLaura EApril 26, 2024Lovely meal in a lovely setting Amazing meal! So different to anything else I’ve tried in the area. Chili chicken and gobi Manchurian for starter and parippu curry and dosa for main. I’d highly recommend all dishes. Staff all very friendly and helpful! Definitely going to come back again!VerifiedHarryT19225April 26, 2024Great food Absolutely stunning food! Definitely coming back for more. Plenty of options to choose from. Definitely suggest the ‘Gobi Manchurian’ for a starter!Verifieddebi aApril 24, 2024Excellent We were recommended the ALLEPPEY kitchen by friends. It’s excellent! Very friendly staff, lots of advice given about the very different menu. Catered well For vegetarian, vegan and coeliac diets Nice atmosphere. A very different experience! Nice to have authentic South Indian food!VerifiedAllison RApril 15, 2024Excellent meal We booked this after having several recommendations from people who had been. The location is a village pub so it’s not the size of a restaurant and was busy. This isn’t your traditional Indian cuisine but the menu is well presented with a good explanation of what each dish is. When you place your order you are brought samples of your chosen sauce to taste so you can choose to have it milder or hotter. This was great as it catered well for everyone’s tastebuds. The food was outstanding, it really was excellent. The cauliflower starter is a must. My only negative comment is the length of time we waited for our meal. Our table was for 7pm and it was past 8.30pm before we got our main course. There was only one waiter for everyone so he really was extremely busy. The food was worth the wait though. Staff were very polite and professional. We will definitely return and can highly recommend it.VerifiedashApril 13, 2024What a find - amazing food, friendly service, what more could you ask for!! We found this place following a random search on Tripadvisor - sooo glad we did. Amazing food, great friendly service - overall a great experience. It was a nice little touch bringing out a sample of sauce to check the spiciness - We had a Kerala Fish curry and a meat Dosa (wife’s first time trying Dosa) - both dishes tasted fantastic, fresh and flavoursome - none of the grease or stodginess you often get with a curry - finishing with the Indian banana split was a great end to the meal too - thanks for a lovely evening, amazing food and such a friendly welcome! For those who go - there are not many signs etc advertising/directing to this place. Head to the Elm Tree pub in Scarcliffe and take the left side entrance door.VerifiedAndrew SApril 6, 2024Fantastic experience. Excellent menu. The staff were brilliant in explaining the different dishes. The food was delicious and unique. Thoroughly recommended.
